During the week of April 29-May 5th, I flew out to upstate New York - the Ithaca area to be exact - to do some rockstar building with Diane of Muddy Pup Photography. We were workshop companions from the February Hair of the Dog Workshop!
The rockstar building included developing a solid workflow, culling and editing images from a shoot, organizing the images in Lightroom and also editing the images in Lightroom. A domain was bought, a Wordpress started, a Facebook page added as well a bazillion more new passwords for Diane to remember! Check out

The best part of the whole time was meeting and photographing the New York dogs!
Izze is Diane's 7 year old yellow labrador! Izze is a total food hound and will eat pretty much everything (including a basket of tea!). This lovely lady also likes to snag and carry shoes when she greets people at the door or in the morning! Diane mentioned that she couldn't get Izze to look at her for pictures, but I didn't seem to run into any problems (it helps to have food motivation!)
Izze's bestest bud, George stopped by for a visit while his mom was out of town. He is a yellow lab mixed with a touch of husky (seen in his ears and tail) who loves tasty treats and loves to bark when he is excited or bored. Or randomly. What a nutball!
I snagged some images of George and Izze together in the their favorite spot - the woods!
I'm glad the 10% chance of rain held off until we were heading back to the car! And for such a slight chance of rain, boy did it downpour on us! Also, New York is one heck of a muddy state! I don't think there was a day I didn't encounter some sort of mud!
Dexter (aka Dex) is a stunning, super frisbee motivated german shepherd who showed off his mad frisbee catching skills, his treat on his nose trick and how to splash and wash your frisbee in a kiddie pool of water!
We met Amos and Libby in a cute little garden area. Although there wasn't much for flowers, the scenery was pretty and the dogs were superstars! Libby, the english setter, was shy at first, but quickly warmed up into a perfect model! Plus those markings are stunning!
Amos looked like he was a black lab, but his one brilliant blue eye suggested that there was a hint of something else in his background. Although a little stressed out he held his sit and stays perfectly!
We had more clouds and little rain showers, but they held off while Diane and I met up with Loki and Roscoe, an adorable pair of mush face pitties! Loki was the baby brother at 3 years old, and he entertained us with his very focused tennis ball chasing. His blue color (silvery grey for those who aren't familiar with dog colors) worked well with graffiti murals we found.
Roscoe was more laid back and food motivated. His plump red brindle and white body showed his love of treats very well, plus being 7 years old he was entitled to have all of the treats he wanted!
Diane's girlfriend Kristen was dogsitting the lovely (and slightly crazy) Skye so I snagged some pictures of the dainty black lab. We adventured outside amidst a chorus of hundreds of red-winged blackbirds until the picture taking was cut short by a sunny rainstorm.
There was a pair of foster dogs that Diane and I also captured. The silly, fast paced Molly and the big sweet lug Charlie Walker! Both are have been adopted from
Cayuga Dog Rescue!
I loved meeting all of the dogs and exploring the stunning area of Ithaca, NY! If you get a chance to travel to upstate New York definitely make a pit stop in Ithaca!
